Obituary of Richard Singletary

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Henry Singletary, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 85 on January 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Richard was born to James and Ruth Singletary on December 22, 1939, in Mobile, Alabama. As a young man he served in the United States Marine Corp, and he remained a proud Marine to the end. He married the love of his life, Edythe Barganier, on August 8, 1959. They moved to Jackson, MS in 1969. For the past 32 years they have resided in Madison, MS. Richard worked for The American Coffee Company, New Orleans, LA, for 45 years where he served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. After retiring from there, he joined his son, Jeff, in business at High Velocity Services. Not willing to sit at home, he continued to service a select few customers until he passed away. Richard traveled a great deal with the coffee company, but when he came home, his world revolved around his family and his horses. While a member of the NCHA, he experienced much success competing in cutting horse competitions. Anyone who knew him knew his passion was his horses. Richard was actively engaged as a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church until his health prevented him from doing so. Richard, better known as Papaw, was best known for his love of his family. He would stand up for and defend any one of them. Being a papaw just came naturally to him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved him dearly and couldn’t help but feel his love for them. Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edythe Singletary; his son, Jeff Singletary (Carleen); his daughter, Mary Louise Gallagher (Mike); his grandchildren, Travis Armstrong (Lexi), Zach Singletary (Hope), Bonnie Kicker (Sam), and Kari Chandler; his great-grandchildren, Brennan Kicker, Josie Kicker, Harper Armstrong, Paisley Chandler, and Willow Armstrong. Visitation will be Monday, January 27, 2025, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home from 12:00pm until 1:00pm with a graveside service to follow at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital. Pallbearers are Ben Knight, Mark Sloan, Bobby Chase, Brad Johnston, Clayton Pepper, Charles Clark, and John McFarland. Honorary Pallbearers are Chief Henry Davis, Deputy Chief Nick Rushton, Deputy Chief Dusty Perry, Battalion Chief Dan Tarsi, Battalion Chief Andy Divine, and Battalion Chief Justin Heuer.
