Frances Laverne Lett, 93, of Flora, MS, passed away at home on February 13, 2025, after an extended illness. She was born August 8, 1931, in Hattiesburg, MS to Raymond Fox and Edith Mitchell Fox. Laverne was the third of four girls. Her sisters Edith Rae Musick, Doris Earle Dixon and JoAnn Pace all preceded her in death. After graduating from Hattiesburg High School, she attended Mississippi College and Jones Junior College where she met her future husband, Howard Lett. After marrying in 1953, Laverne lived in San Diego, CA, Fort Worth, TX and Biloxi, MS. She would go on to raise her three children in the Garden Park Subdivision of South Jackson where she lived for 50 years. In 2013, she moved to Flora where she spent the last 12 years with her daughter Wanda who also was her dedicated caregiver for Laverne’s final few years. Aside from working as a secretary at Kennignton’s in the 1960’s and later at MP&L, the majority of her work outside the home was spent caring for children in several daycares, churches and for individual families. She loved to play the piano and had a beautiful voice. Laverne was devoted to her family and showed great care and affection towards her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Laverne also was known by several names – “Lett” by her close friends; “Aunt Verne” by nieces and nephews; “Meme” and “Grandma Sippi” by grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances Laverne Lett is survived by her daughter, Wanda Lett of Flora, MS; sons, Ray Lett (Kate) of Garland, TX, and Robert Lett (Marti) of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Taylor Lett (Lindsey), Cooper Lett (Chloe), Maggie Byerly, Natalie Lett, Joseph Lett (Kim) and Brittany Badeaux (Broc); 18 great grandchildren and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one great grandson and one niece. She was a long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday February 18, 2025 at 2 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.
