Obituary of Janie Cross Harris

Janie Lee Cross Harris of Madison passed away peacefully at her home on February 17, 2025. She was born on January 24,1933 to Ruby Lee and Emma Jo Cross of Pisgah, MS.
An accomplished student, Janie graduated from Pisgah High School in 1950 as Valedictorian. She graduated with a Business Degree from Louisiana State University where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. A devoted and passionate follower of LSU sports, she loved watching her Tigers play throughout her life. After graduation, she moved to Houston, TX where she worked for Humble Oil as an Executive Assistant.
In 1960, she moved to Madison and married her beloved husband J.S. “Brother” Harris. They were married for 61 years and were a devoted and loving couple that loved to entertain and spread joy and laughter. Janie worked for Charles Craig Architects in Madison as an Administrator. She loved this career and the many lifelong friends whom she made while working there.
Janie and Brother were active and dedicated members of Madison Methodist Church. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her infectious laugh was contagious and she was blessed to have many wonderful friends whom she cherished and who loved her dearly.
She is survived by her daughter Janie Lyn (Curtis) Fletcher and granddaughter Emma Elisabeth Fletcher of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and brother Paul Jerry (Modean) Cross of Pisgah. Janie was preceded in death by her husband J.S. “Brother” Harris; her daughter Joellen Harris and her parents Ruby Lee and Emma Cross.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Janie’s caregivers Orlanda Bouldin, Kizzy Blount, Rebecca Day, Matasha Ford, Harriet Hurley, Ada Powell, Debbie Smith, and Hospice Nurses Amber Ayleswoth and Shenita Caldwell and Chaplain Julie Orr. The family is so appreciative of their love, kindness, and wonderful care she received from them.
Visitation will be held at 11:30am at Natchez Trace Funeral Home followed by a Graveside Service at 1pm.
