Gloria Jean Purvis, 84, of Madison, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her home on February 26, 2025. She was born on February 12, 1941, in Yazoo County, Mississippi, to George Hiram and Maudie Mae Johnston.
Gloria was a member of First Baptist Church Madison. She spent 25 years as a receptionist at McRae’s, where her warm personality shined.
With a good heart and an easy-going nature, Gloria brought joy to those around her. She had a playful spirit and was known to be quite the flirt at times, always finding ways to make others smile. She loved shopping, especially for clothes, and rarely passed up an opportunity to find something new to add to her wardrobe. More than anything, she cherished time with her family, treasuring every moment spent with her children and grandchildren.
A passionate Mississippi State fan, Gloria rarely missed a game, cheering on the Bulldogs in football, baseball, basketball, and any other sport they played. Whether watching from home or from the stands, her enthusiasm for her team was unmatched.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Jimmy Purvis; her son, Hiram Lee Purvis; and her beloved grandchildren- Christopher Creasy, Samantha Purvis, and Anna Grace Paige.
Visitation will be held at Natchez Trace Funeral Home on Friday, February 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
Gloria’s warmth, kindness, and love for life will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.
