Joseph Harold Sullivan passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 106 on Monday, March 3, 2025, at St. Catherine’s Village. He was born on June 19, 1918, to John L. and Mary Sullivan in Memphis, TN. He was the second of nine children and attended Catholic High School in Memphis. Mr. Sullivan entered the Army on June 16, 1941. Master Sgt. Sullivan served as a Quartermaster in the Persian Gulf Command in WWII. As a member of the 186th QM Depot Company, his unit received supplies through the Persian Gulf to supply the Eastern front in Europe. Master Sgt. Sullivan served there for a three-year deployment, returning home in October of 1945. On November 1st, 1945, he was honorably discharged from service. On November 24, 1945, Mr. Sullivan married his beautiful sweetheart, Ms. Ann Sofia Rukavina. Mr. Sullivan spent most of his adult life in Indiana where he used the supply chain skills he learned in the Army. He retired from Inland Steel after working there for 36 years as a dock supply supervisor. He was very active with his family and church community there. He moved to Madison, MS in 2010 to be closer to family. He was married for 68 years when he lost his beloved wife. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Madison. Mr. Sullivan always had a smile and was quick-witted at 106 years young. During his time at St. Catherine’s, his favorite pastime was playing bingo and was known to have quite the luck when playing. He was well loved and a blessing to his fellow residents and caretakers. He is preceded in his passing by his loving wife of 68 years, Ann Sofia Sullivan, his parents, and all eight of his siblings- John, Ann, Margaret, Lewis, Thomas, Wallace, Rose, and Pauline. Mr. Sullivan is survived by his nieces and nephews- Stephanie Lovelady Candebat, Bethany Sullivan, Shari Bahner, Catherine Weingarten, Joe Lowrey, Charles Lowrey, Lewis Lowery, Allen Lowery, Mike Sullivan, Mary Moller, Carol Moller, Mike Moller, Patricia Stubbs, Gary Oberman, Sheryl McNiff, and Ron Oberman; along with numerous great and great great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Catherine’s Village or St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
