Obituary of Peggy Fletcher Horne
Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peggy Fletcher Horne of Ridgeland, MS, known to all as Mama Peg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 16, 2025 surrounded by family at MS Baptist Medical Center at the young age of 93. She was born on April 1st 1931 in Swissvale, PA to Herbert John and Mary Elizabeth Fletcher, and moved to Charleston, SC as a child. She later met Bill while he was stationed there in the Navy; they married in 1955 and moved to Baton Rouge before moving to Jackson, MS where they made their home.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack and her husband of 58 years, William D. Horne, Sr. (Bill).
Peggy is survived by her three children, Billy Horne (Kristi) of Vaughan, Kim McRee (Ron) of Grenada, and Chip Horne of Ridgeland; six grandsons,Tripp (Jarrah), Trevor (Victoria), Michael (Bethany), Nathan (Alanna), Zachary and Wyatt, along with seven great grandchildren- Leigh, Khloe, Ryder, Luke, Levi, Finley and Ace.
Peggy was well loved by all her friends and family… especially by her church family at First Baptist Madison where she was an active member for 30+ years. She was always willing to help others any way she could, including driving friends to doctor visits and bringing them to church. She absolutely loved to travel all over the world with Bill but missed Israel until she traveled there at age 87. She looked forward to travelling with family and all the Senior Adult trips, especially helping with Operation Christmas Child filling the shoeboxes in Dallas every year. It’s been told that she and another dear member of her church were known to dance in the aisles to the Christmas music during break time! :)
She also earned the title of “The Queen Bee” from her ladies’ water aerobics group called the Aqua Bees...where she attended class three days a week for the past 30 years! Now you know why she could run circles around the rest of us… even at the age of 93!
Peggy had a special talent for cross stitching and sewing, always making something for somebody! She made pillows for heart patients at Baptist and beautiful gifts for her family! Peggy loved to cook, bake cakes and make jelly… which were loved by all! When you think about it…. there really wasn’t much Peggy couldn’t do!
In 2019 Peggy was named MS Baptist Medical Center’s Volunteer of the Year for her service in the ICU waiting room. She was the greeter and liason for family members visiting their loved ones in the ICU.
And last but definitely not least…. Mama Peg loved her family! She was super proud of each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren… and we all loved our Mama Peg! Until we meet again…. You will live on in our hearts!
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Madison, 2100 Main St. Madison, MS 39110.
Special thanks to Pallbearers/Grandsons: Michael McRee, Nathan McRee, Luke McRee, Tripp Horne, Trevor Horne, and Zachary Horne.
