Terry Marieanne Turcotte Thurmond, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home in Madison, Mississippi, on May 18, 2025, at the age of 73. Terry was born on December 8, 1951, in Clinton, Mississippi, to Annie Cook Tribble Turcotte and William Henry Turcotte. A proud graduate of Clinton High School’s Class of 1969, she went on to attend Hinds Community College for two years. Throughout her professional life, Terry dedicated her talents to public service and healthcare, working with the University of Mississippi Medical Center, the Mississippi State Tax Commission, and the PEER Committee. Terry had a profound love for animals and was never without the companionship of her cherished fur babies. She was especially fond of her horses, Toni and Ruth, and her loyal dogs—Sam, Bo, Rambo, Tux, and Bella. Her home was always full of warmth, joy, and the loving presence of her pets. One of Terry's greatest joys was celebrating Christmas. She delighted in decorating her home for the holidays, turning it into a wonderland that brought cheer to family and friends alike. She is preceded in death by her parents, Annie and William Turcotte; her brother, James F. Turcotte (Jo); and niece, Stacey Turcotte Michael. She is also preceded in death by her beloved bird, R2. Terry is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Joseph L. Thurmond; her daughters- Taylor Turcotte and Laurie Thurmond Smith (Rodney); son, David Thurmond (Marcie); grandchildren- Andrew Smith, Addison Smith Frutiger (John), Alex Thurmond, and Emily Thurmond; brothers- William S. Turcotte (Diane) and John W. Turcotte (and late wife, Terry); nieces and nephews Jamie Turcotte Dowd (Keith), Leigh Anne Turcotte Boland (Todd), Ashlie Turcotte Lovins (Quentin), Will Turcotte, and Erin Sydney Turcotte; as well as two great-nieces and one great-nephew. She is also survived by her loving fur baby, Tux, who was family in every sense of the word. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Clinton City Cemetery, 500 College Street, Clinton, MS 39056. All who knew and loved Terry are invited to attend and celebrate a life lived with kindness, grace, and boundless affection.
