Obituary of Johnny Malcolm Slawson

Johnny Malcolm Slawson, 79, of Canton, passed away at his home on July 31. He was born on October 6, 1945, to Annie May Presley and James Kirk Slawson in Jackson, Mississippi.
Johnny was a commercial truck driver for 33 years and travelled across the United States. He had an inquisitive and meticulous nature with a multitude of talents and interests, including automotive mechanics, building and flying model airplanes, gardening, landscaping, and woodworking. He was also fascinated by nature, particularly meteorology, and was an avid animal lover.
Johnny was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers, James Kirk “J.K.” Jr. and Fred; sisters, Abbie Jewel West, Elizabeth Strickland, and Edna Earl Breaux. He is survived by his daughter, Candace Slawson Weathersby (Max) of Canton; son, Alex Slawson (Jerry) of Huntersville, NC; several nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, great-grandnephews, and great-grand-nieces.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 10:00 AM at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) Mississippi or the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.
