William G. Smith, age 87, passed away August 4, 2025 at 5:29 a.m. at St. Dominic's Hospital after a short illness. "Bill", as he liked to be called, was born in Shauck, OH on Jun 5, 1938. The family moved to Green Bay, WI eventually. He attended schools there graduating from West High School in 1956. He received his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. In 1958, he met his wife Darlene at Arthur Murray's in Green Bay where they both were instructors. Both loved to dance and enjoyed dancing all of their married life. Travel also was their passion. They visited 100 countries, 15 cruises and all 50 states. They had two children, Bill Jr. born in 1959 and Margaret Eileen born in 1961. Bill Jr. died in 2021 of COVID. Margie died in April 2024 of a diabetes related illness. They have six grandchildren, Nikki, Shannon (husband Paul), McCain, Aaron, Shane and Mia. They also have two great-grandsons, Colin and Clayton, as well as daughter-in-law Erika. Bill lost his sister Cheryl as well as her husband Mike. He is survived by his sister, Lori (late-husband Jordan) who lives in Florida; Larry (wife Cookie) living in Green Bay, WI and Beverly (husband Steve) also in Green Bay. Bill worked as a start up manager for Proctor & Gamble for 25 years. He was Co-owner of a successful papermill chemical business supplying mills in five states until his retirement. Bill and Darlene moved to Madison, MS in 1984 and joined St. Francis of Assisi Parish when services were at the Cerami's Fish House. He was an active member participating as a choir member, Eucharistic Minister, and soundboard minister. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree member. He was a past commander for the Order of Alhambra. In addition to traveling, dancing and family functions, Bill loved playing music. He played the guitar, banjo and mandolin. He loved walking our Pug dog, Coco Lynn until she passed. He loved playing poker and formed a poker club in the neighborhood. He was an avid golfer also. Bill followed the Lombardi Doctrine of God, Family and the Green Bay Packers. He was a Packer fan until his death. When Bill passed, he was three weeks shy of his 67th wedding anniversary. There will be a visitation on Saturday, August 9, 2025 honoring the life of Mr. William Smith to begin at 10am with Mass at 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. In Lieu of flowers, memorials in his name are to be donated to St. Francis of Assisi, 4000 W Tidewater Lane, Madison, MS 39110.
