James Howard Hughes
Jackson
Howard Hughes went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 23, 2025. He was born and raised in Collins, Mississippi, and later earned a degree in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi. After college, Howard began a long and dedicated career with MP&L (now Entergy), retiring after 35 years of service.
Howard’s personality was as big as life itself—he never met a stranger. He had a deep love for adventure, especially traveling in his motor coach and riding his motorcycle. Some of his fondest memories were trips out West and through the Smoky Mountains on two wheels. He would often say, "There is nothing like the early morning wind in your face and the fresh smells in the air." Howard also had a passion for flying and rebuilt his own plane in the garage—there was truly nothing he couldn’t fix.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 wonderful years, Geraldine; and their two sons, Jay and Chris. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Jay (Anne) are parents to Addison (Cayson Hankins), Christian (Sydni), and great-granddaughter Lily; Noah (Sydney), Hadley (Cade Ewing); and grandchildren Arden and Ty Thompson. Chris and his wife Shelley are the proud parents of Abby Grace and triplets Madeline Claire, Grand, and Dixon.
Howard was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Donna (Lee Haigley), and by his parents, Eula Mae and Donald Hughes, who raised him in a loving, God-centered home.
