Rodney E. Carney, age 75, of Madison, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025. Born on September 27, 1949, in Jackson, Mississippi and was the only child of the late Luther Carney and Pauline Wigley Carney. Rod proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1969. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Helen Leake, beginning a lifelong partnership marked by devotion, faith, and service to others. Together, Rod and Helen founded a mortgage company that laid the foundation for a successful career in banking. Rod eventually retired as President of Bank Plus Mortgage, where he was respected for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to his clients and colleagues. A man of deep faith, Rod was a devoted member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Madison, where he and Helen worshipped and built lasting friendships within the community. Rod will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to our country, and his unwavering faith. Rod is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen, his son Chris (Susan), his daughter Nan Lyles (Brett); grandchildren, Jonathan Lyles (Bailey), Nicholas Lyles (Katie), Christopher Lyles (Brennan), Wilson Carney, and Elliott Lyles; and great-grandchildren Charlie Reed Lyles, Magnolia Beck Lyles, and Brooklyn Rose Lyles. The family would like to say a special thank to Samson and the entire care team at Beau Ridge for treating Rod like family. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with a service celebrating his life at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will follow in the Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Webster Animal Shelter in Madison.
