Obituary of Garry Gene Langston

Please share a memory of Garry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Garry Gene Langston, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle passed away peacefully at his home on September 3, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on February 15, 1947, to Austin Eugene Langston and Nadine Benton Langston in Saddle, Arkansas. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War. His service was marked by bravery, dedication, and a lifelong loyalty to his fellow Marines. In 1986, he moved his family from Arkansas to Mississippi to begin a new chapter, working alongside his brother at Anderson Chemical Company. Before long, his nephews joined them, and together they built not only a livelihood but also a bond of family, hard work, and solidarity that lasted a lifetime. He was a true storyteller at heart, famous for his tall tales of wrestling alligators and other adventures that left his loved ones laughing and shaking their heads in delight. To his grandchildren, he was the Popsicle and Klondike Bar king—always ready with a freezer stocked to the brim and arms wide open for hugs. To his family and friends, he was one of a kind: a man who could make you laugh with his stories, who never met a stranger, and who carried the bravery of a soldier with the will to live like no other. He faced many health challenges in his life but where others might have surrendered, he chose to fight-time and time again-showing his family and friends what true perseverance looks like. Garry is preceded in death by his parents, Austin Gene Langston and Nadine Benton Langston. Garry leaves behind his beloved wife, Melissa K. Langston; his children, Daughter, Ashley (Andrew) Shapley of Brandon, MS; Son, Garry Owen Langston of Madison, MS; Three Sisters, Glenda Spratt of Queen Creek, AZ, Jo (Mikel) Smith of San Tan Valley, AZ, Jill Hill (Art) of Springdale, AZ; Brother, Terry (Denise) Langston of Mt. Home, AR; Three grandchildren, Weston Shapley, Sawyer Shapley, Bennett Shapley; and a host of extended family members who adored him. Though he has gone on to join those who passed before him, his legacy of love, humor, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Visitation will be Monday September 15, 2025, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Natchez Trace Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Kidney Fund or the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
