Please share a memory of Surjit to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep love and gratitude that we announce the passing of Sardar Surjit Singh Bedi, who peacefully departed this life at the age of 97. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Surjit was lovingly known as Papa to those around him. His remarkable journey began in Banga, Punjab, as son of Karam Singh Bedi and Rajinder Kaur. There he lived with his parents, two brothers, and four sisters. He married his bride, Barjinder Kaur in 1949 and became the proud father of his two sons, Dalip and Harinder Bedi. In his younger days, he was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and flying kites in addition to spending time with his family.
In 1974, with courage and perseverance, he left his native land and built a life of opportunity and legacy while planting roots in Jackson, Mississippi. He joined his sister and brother-in-law in embarking on a new endeavor of entrepreneurship - a trade he passed down to his sons and future generations. Throughout his long life, he was known for his humor, style, strength of character, and dedication to his faith. Papa treasured family gatherings, the laughter of children, and the traditions that kept loved ones close.
He was cherished by his family. The lives around him are forever enriched by his wisdom, resilience, and unconditional love. He is survived by his wife, two sons and daughter-in-laws, five grandchildren with their spouses, and fourteen great grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Though Papa will be dearly missed, his spirit and legacy live on in the generations that follow him.
