Dick Wayne Cauthen, born August 3, 1958, in Canton, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was the beloved son of the late Billy Cauthen of Camden, MS, and Lucille Cauthen of Jackson, MS. Dick spent his entire life in and around the Jackson area, building lasting relationships and touching many lives.
In his youth, Dick was deeply involved with the Boy’s Club, where he learned swimming, gymnastics, football, baseball, and basketball. He also developed a passion for boxing and was immensely proud to win the 1978 state Golden Gloves award in middleweight boxing. Dick attended Provine High School, Class of 1976.
Throughout his adult life, Dick worked in the field of logistics, spending much of his career with Jackson Paper Company and Express Courier. In 2008, he transitioned to Dillard’s Department Store as the Business Selling Manager, where he found his niche in selling custom suits. Dick retired in December 2021. In the fall of 2022, he was diagnosed with lymphoma, and in June 2025, he was joyfully informed that he was in remission - a testament to the multitude of prayers lifted on his behalf.
Dick leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 22 years, Cathy Buffington Cauthen; his son, Wesley Kyle Cauthen of Madison, MS; step-son, Glen Westbrook (Mallory) of Flowood, MS; stepdaughter, Katie Jarrell of Nevada City, CA; brothers, Billy Cauthen and Kenny Cauthen of Edwards, MS; and sister, Mary Jo Sanders of Richland, MS.
He was a proud Papa to six grandchildren: Ainsley Cauthen of Madison, MS; Analise Westbrook of Flowood, MS; Katie Grace Westbrook of Brandon, MS; Beckham Westbrook of Huntsville, AL, Maddox Greer of Flowood, MS and Hughes Westbrook of Huntsville, AL. Dick is also survived by his beloved four-legged companion, Piper.
A memorial service celebrating Dick’s life will be held on October 25, 2025, at 2 PM at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS. Friends and family may visit between 12 - 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
