Judith Ann Monk McArthur
Ridgeland, MS
Judy was born to D.L. and Marjorie Monk on October 5, 1940 in Jackson, MS. She was in the class of '58 at Provine High School, followed graduating in the class of '62 at Millsaps College with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a member and president of Beta Sigma Omicron Sorority.
It was during 1960 that Judy and six sorority sisters took a trip to Ship Island on the Gulf Coast where she met the love of her life and man she will marry, Barrie McArthur. On June 29, 1963 Judy and Barrie tied the knot. Judy began teaching second grade at West Point Elementary and Barrie traded his Air Force Career to enter the Apollo Space Program taking them to Texas for five years. During their time in Texas, Judy gave birth to their two daughters, Dana Lynn ('67) and Wendy Michelle ('69). In 1971, the family moved back to Mississippi, bought property in Madison County. They built their new home, which after decades of renovations, is still the home-place to three generations.
Judy was an active member of Madison Methodist Church for fifty years. She loved music and shared her talent with the ministry by singing and playing the piano. She conducted monthly entertainment sessions to nursing homes, civic and church groups in the Jackson area.
Judy was a high energy individual who never met a stranger. She never said "No" to requests for her time or her talents. She loved to read, garden, watched the hundreds of hummingbirds that she would feed and attract each year. Judy loved "blue water" fishing in the Gulf until her diagnosis with Levy Body Dementia in 2018, which she fought aggressively until she succumbed to it and moved from home care to memory care at Beau Ridge Home Place for her final days.
The McArthur family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the caregivers in the Memory Care Facility. A special thank you to the two angels, Bettie and Susan, who would visit her every week, lifting her spirits and keeping her smiling.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Barrie McArthur; her daughters, Dana Lubeck and Wendy Summers; and 5 grandchildren, Austin, Nicki, Chris, Zach, and Stephen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Madison Methodist Church Music Ministry at 100 Post Oak Rd, Madison, MS 39110.
