Janet “Gale” Burton Roebuck, age 77, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Jackson, Mississippi.
Born on December 17, 1948, in Neshoba County, Mississippi, Gayle was the daughter of the late Sam and Elvie Burton and a longtime native of Attala County. She dedicated 32 years of her life to education as a beloved teacher in the Madison County School District, where she impacted countless students with her patience, encouragement, and love for learning.
Jan was a faithful member of Old Town Wesley Church in Ridgeland, Mississippi, where she served as the choir director for the Son Shine Choir. Her love for music and worship was evident in everything she did. Beyond the classroom and church, she devoted many years to coaching youth softball in Madison and Ridgeland, shaping not only athletes but confident young people through her guidance and leadership.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Glenn Roebuck of Madison, Mississippi; her daughter, Carrie Roebuck; her son, Chris Roebuck (Brooke); her sisters, Rita Hawthorne (Tom) and Vicki Burton (Patty Wilcher); her brother, Sam Burton II (Sandy); and one step-grandchild. She also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, former students, and players who will forever cherish her influence and kindness.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM, with visitation from 10:00 AM until service time at the Natchez Trace Funeral Home.
Jan life was one of service, faith, and dedication to others, and her legacy will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
