Obituary of Agnes Waits Stanley

Agnes was born in Yazoo County on March 13, 1930, to Allen and Louise Waits, who later moved to Madison County. She passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in the company of her grandchildren/caretakers. A graveside service will be conducted Monday January 4, 2021 at 10:00am at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison. She graduated from Madison Ridgeland High School in 1948 where she was voted salutatorian and most beautiful. She earned her B.S. from Mississippi College for Women, her M.S from Mississippi College. She taught math and was a guidance counselor at Jackson Public Schools for 30 years. She worked at Bailey Junior High, Chastain Junior High, Powell Junior High, Brinkley Junior High and returned to Chastain Junior High. After retiring, she moved back to Madison and was a member of First Baptist Church of Madison. Agnes is preceded in death by her parents; sons Lewis Stanley and Allen Stanley; grandson, A.J. Stanley; and daughter-in-law, Joy Hunt Stanley. She is survived by her grandson, John Stanley and great grandson Myles; her granddaughter Christy Stanley, great granddaughters Noel, Nicole and Natalie, and great great granddaughter Ivy; and her granddaughter Angela Sanders and husband Andrew. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Hederman Cancer Center at Baptist - 1225 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39202.
