Conard Wall Simmons, age 88, passed away on February 5, 2021, in Jackson, Mississippi surrounded by family. He was born on January 16, 1933, to William Simmons and Ulma Eddins in Greenville, AL.
Conard served in the United States Air Force for 27 years before he retired as Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank bestowed by the USAF, in 1975. Throughout his military career, Conard served many tours and was stationed at numerous bases across this country. From 1952 to 1956 - deployed to Spangdahlem, Germany during the German Occupation. 1956 to 1963 - served at Craig AFB, Selma, AL, where he trained and tested fighter jets. 1964 to 1965 - classified service following the Korean Conflict in Koonson, South Korea. 1965 to 1967 - served at Edwards Air Force Base in California where he supported test pilots in pre-astronaut training and special rocket engines. 1967 to 1969 - served at Systems Command Headquarters, Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C., maintaining quality control at Systems Command bases across the United States. 1969 to 1974 - served at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii in special classified operations supporting troops during the Vietnam Conflict. 1974 to 1975 - served with Strategic Air Command in Plattsburg, NY where he supported readiness of strategic fighters and bombers. In 1975, Conard retired from the United States Air Force having served his country faithfully and honorably.
Conard is survived by his loving wife Kaye Simmons; Daughter, Dr. Lishia Simmons (Lynn) Lee; Son, Kenneth L. (Allison) Simmons; Four grandchildren, Rebecca A. Cummings, Kenneth L. (Caroline) Simmons Jr., Emily G. (Gabe) Sandoval, James S. (Clarissa) Simmons; Great Grandchild, Sara E. Simmons; 5 nieces; 9 nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, February 8, 2021, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, Mississippi from 10:00 - 11:00 am. A funeral service celebrating his life will follow at 11:00 am. Military Honors and Interment (private, family only) will follow at 1:00 pm at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 7427 Old Canton Road, Madison, Mississippi 39110.
