Molloy Simpson (M. S.) Bennett, 93, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 27, 2021. M. S. was born on September 15, 1927 in Electric Mills, MS to the late Otis and Opal Bennett. He was a high school graduate of Holmes Junior College and enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 after his high school graduation, where he served his country for 3 years. Upon his discharge, he returned to Mississippi where he earned his Accounting Degree from Mississippi State University in January 1952. Mr. Bennett married the love of his life, Mary Joe Gammill, of Reform, MS, on December 16, 1951, and in December 2020 they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. M. S. was an owner in the Insurance Agency Davis and Goulet for 23 years and prided himself in always giving his customers the best service possible. After his retirement in 1992, he and his wife enjoyed a time of travel where they visited much of the United States. He was passionate about his beloved MSU Bulldogs and enjoyed watching them when he could. Another favorite pastime was fishing which provided many memorable moments with his brothers, Ben and Cecil, and his sons, Larry and Bruce. M. S. was active in the life of his churches: North Park Presbyterian where he served as Deacon and Elder Emeritus and later Trinity Presbyterian. A student of scripture, he read the entire Bible numerous times through the years. M. S. also participated in several mission trips to Mexico where he assisted in construction projects related to churches and schools. M. S. had a servant’s heart and always pursued helping others, whether the need was large or small. His service in local civic organizations include the Sertoma Club of Jackson and MadCAAP. Mr. Bennett was preceded in passing by his parents, sister Sylvia Oldham and brothers Oliver Bennett and Cecil Bennett. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Joe Bennett of Jackson; daughter Nancy (Mike) Rawls of Ridgeland, sons Larry (Patricia) Bennett of Flora and Bruce (Renia) Bennett of Ridgeland.
