Dr. R. Kirk Smithhart, O.D., 68, of Madison, passed away on May 29, 2021, at UMMC in Jackson, MS. Kirk was born on October 3, 1952 to William Leroy and Sarah Kirk Smithhart. He graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis and has been in practice since graduating in 1978. He had his own practice, R. Kirk Smithhart Eye Care. He was an avid outdoorsman, marksman, craftsman, and musician, with an unbridled passion for life and an unending dedication to his patients. But above all, he was a family man in the truest sense of the term. He lived for his family, and his family was his life. Kirk is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lynne Smithhart, daughter, Kellie Smithhart Proctor and her husband Bobby; sons, Will Smithhart and his wife Anna and Kirk Smithhart, Jr. and his wife Erika; grandchildren, Adeline Smithhart, Dolly Smithhart, Sophie Smithhart and Halen Smithhart and sister, Carolyn Smithhart. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am.
