Charles Samuel Corder, Jr. February 20, 1959 - August 17, 2021 Charles Corder, Jr., 62, died on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, due to complications from COVID-19 after a long battle with cancer. Services for Mr. Corder will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Parkway Memorial Cemetery following the service. The family strongly requests all guests to wear face coverings and maintain physical distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Mr. Corder was born February 20, 1959, to Charles “Sam” and Margie DeLoach Corder in St. Louis, Missouri. The family moved to Jackson soon after he was born. Mr. Corder was the oldest of their 3 children. Charles graduated from Callaway High School in 1977 and attended Delta State University and Mississippi State University. In 1995 he received his bachelor’s degree from Belhaven University. Mr. Corder was a retired journalist and newspaper editor. He was the Managing Editor of the Greenwood Commonwealth from 2009 to 2018, and he was a copy editor for sports and news at the Clarion Ledger for over 20 years. He was a true newspaperman and a friend and mentor to many journalists in Mississippi. In addition to his legacy as a journalist, Charles was a man of outstanding wit and humor. He loved music and sports of all kinds. He played trumpet in the marching band throughout high school and college, and he was usually listening to rock and roll - especially The Rolling Stones. He was a sports fan who enjoyed supporting a variety of sports teams around the globe. Above all, he remained loyal to Mississippi State University’s Bulldogs. Charles was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. He is survived by two daughters, Amy Corder (John Culbreth) of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Emily Robinson (Andy Robinson) of Key West, Florida; their mother and dear friend, Anne Corder of Madison, and sisters Pamela Peters and Patti Corder of Fort Worth, TX. He is also survived by his beloved dachshund, Izzy, and his cat, Max. Flowers may be sent to Natchez Trace Funeral Home of Madison. The Corder family also requests blood and/or platelet donations to Mississippi Blood Services. Over the last eight months, donations were instrumental in allowing Charles more precious time on earth.
