Reflections of Life for Mr. LaSelle Russell Valentine LaSelle Russell Valentine was born June 16, 1953, to Willie and Irene Valentine in Vicksburg, Mississippi. LaSelle went home to be with the Lord on January 27, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Irene Valentine. LaSelle moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at a young age and graduated from Rufus King High School. In 1971, LaSelle enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for 4 years. During his tenure, Sergeant Valentine received the National Defense Service Medal, the Medal of Honor, the Outstanding Volunteer Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air and Space Longevity Award, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After being honorably discharged, LaSelle graduated from Bryant and Stratton College in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. LaSelle accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior in junior high school and continued serving faithfully in his church and community in adulthood. LaSelle met the love of his life, Marilyn Brooks, and was married on September 4, 1976. He found his passion in entrepreneurship, owned three gas stations, and later retired from the Xerox Corporation. After retirement, LaSelle moved to Madison, Mississippi and was a contractor for Postage Savers. LaSelle’s favorite pastimes included cutting his grass, repairing items in his shed, or loving his grandchildren. He loved hard, encouraged them in their interests, and made sure they knew they could always “call Papa.” Whether it was changing oil, changing a tire, cutting grass on a zero-turn, preparing your taxes, investing, or just learning something new, LaSelle stressed to his family that knowledge is power and with God, ANYTHING is possible. LaSelle leaves to cherish his memories: A loving wife of forty-eight years, Marilyn Valentine; two children: Stephanie and Brian (Tamika) Valentine; five grandchildren: Kayla, Karis, Abraham, Contessa, and Oscar Valentine; four brothers: Howard (Karen) Russell, Lee (Linda) Russell, LaSalle (Cecilia) Russell, and Maurice Valentine; three sisters: Gloria (Samuel) Boose, Gwendolyn (Alvin) Ratliff, and Gracie Valentine, and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
