We truly appreciated Dr. Ryscavage as our Superintendent of Schools in Garrett County Maryland for his steady, excellent leadership. He and his wife Mary, a teacher, and their children Kathryn, Jeff, and Susan also contributed their best to our community. We were blessed that they chose to settle here in Oakland when their children were growing up.

Jerry and I go back to high school years...He was a dear friend...an outstanding athlete throughout his high school and college days. A three sports star in cross country, basketball and baseball and tremendous basketball player on championship teams at Central Connecticut... He had a great professional career in Education and the US Navy...but greatest of all was his care and love of his wife and family... He'll be missed by myself and those of us from his hometown in Thompson, CT and Tourtellotte Memorial High School...Rest in Peace...Big Guy...Love, Babbitt

We are sad to learn of Jerry’s passing. While we only knew Jerry a few years as a neighbor in Pirates Cove, we always enjoyed time visiting and talking. Although at different times, we shared many stories about growing up and rival schools in Connecticut. Jerry also fondly shared stories of the south with Debra as both our wives were from areas close by. He had a genuine care and interest in knowing the people he met. He will be missed especially at our afternoon group gatherings.
Our sincere condolences to all the Ryscavage Family.

I am very saddened to hear of Dr. Ryscavage passing. He was a kind, wonderful person and I will never forget him. He always went out of his way to make sure everyone was doing well. He knew every single persons name under his leadership and even knew their families and would ask how they were. He always had time to talk and genuinely cared for people. His advise and wisdom I carried with me throughout my career. Heaven gained a beautiful soul. Prayers to his family.

When Jerry and I approached each other we were usually both grinning in anticipation of the banter. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could take it as well as dish it out. When I loaned him Tent Life in Siberia as reading material for a hospital stay, he derived great enjoyment from describing the reactions of his doctors when they picked it up. He and Mary were wonderful friends and we have missed them.

I’m so very sorry to hear about Jerry’s passing. Jerry and Mary have been a HUGE blessing in the life of our family. We were blessed to have them in our church in the summertime when they lived in Oakland Md. They have offered their lovely home in the Outer Banks to us for years for our summer vacations. Their generous hearts have touched our lives more than we can say. Our prayers are with Kathryn, Jeff, Susan, and their families. May God give you all comfort and peace through this difficult time. Love, Pastor Wally and Debbie Weeks

I am very saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Ryscavage. I learned so much in working with him and continue to strive to be a school system leader that would earn his respect. He was caring and kind and supportive and had high expectations for himself and others and was my professional hero. He was also a good friend who Sull and I both enjoyed knowing.
With great respect - Brenda McCartney
