Jo Bryan Phillips
1925 – 2024
Jo Bryan Phillips passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2024. Prior to moving to Alabama, Jo was a long-time resident of Ridgeland, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Sarah Bryan, her brother Wadsworth Pape, sister-in- law Gloria Pape, and her husband Harry W. Phillips.
She is survived by her son Bill (Debbie) Phillips, grandchildren Leigh (David) Johnson and Laura (Ryan) Adams, great grandchildren Elizabeth Johnson, Rose, Luke and Ruth Adams.
She was born December 26, 1925, in Birmingham, Alabama. She received a fine arts degree from Ward Belmont in Nashville. She attended Auburn Polytechnic and graduated in 1947 with a B.A in interior decorating. After moving to Jackson, MS, in 1948, she joined an interior design firm. She married Harry in 1949. She worked as a nurse’s aid at the University Hospital. She received her LPN through Hinds Jr. college in 1966. She became an RN in 1971 and received a BS in nursing in 1978 from Mississippi College. She would then work for the state of Mississippi inspecting nursing home facilities until she retired in 1986. She was an avid bowler and a member of the National Bowling League. She loved dogs and in her later years adopted many. She was late in life coming to Christ, which was an incredible blessing to her and her family.
Visitation will be at Natchez Trace Funeral Home February 3rd, 10 am followed by the service at 11 am. Entombment will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in memory of Jo Phillips to MARL - Mississippi Animal Rescue League or CARA - Community Animal Rescue & Adoption in Jackson, MS.
