Mavis J. Childs was 3 months short of being 89 years old. She married Ocie Childs at 18 years of age and had 3 children. Gary Childs (Janis), Sue Childs Yarbro (Mike), and Judy Childs(Debbie) that she loved very much. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Ocie in 1973 and never remarried, one sister Jetty Frazier, two brothers, Arthur Lee Vaughn, Donald Vaughn. Mavis is also survived by one brother, JC Vaughn (Ruth Ellen) of MS, two sisters, Ruby Ruth Amos (Bob) AR, and Opal McNair, MI, 7 grandchildren, Sharra Yarbro Reno (Bill), Kippy Yarbro Powell, Chuck Childs (Jennifer), Scott Childs (Leigh), Angie Hahn (Jason), Christopher Whitlock (Haley), and Brandon Whitlock. 11 great grandchildren. She was born in the Delta and moved to Jackson to work with her husband at Mississippi Industries for the Blind for 37 years as head of Quality Control. After retiring she worked part time for a few years to stay busy and active.
The past 11 years have been rewarding in her retirement home, The Waterford, even though she went there kicking and screaming. She grew to love the friends she made there and the staff. They played cards, bingo, and anything else China could convince them do and were like her second family, always checking on her and loving her back. She loved the security she felt in her home. She was a great lady that was funny, always telling jokes, and giggling. The staff at Stay Home Hospice helped take care of her during these last couple of months, but especially during the last two weeks. They were greatly appreciated. Mavis, Mom, Mamaw, will be missed dearly.
God Bless those remaining.
Bro. Ricky Kennedy will officiate the service.
