Obituary of Mike Womack

Charles Michael “Mike” Womack of Madison, Mississippi died peacefully on February 27, 2024. Mike was born May 18, 1943, to Hilda Hughes and Charles Lee “Red” Womack of McComb.
Mike graduated from McComb High School in 1961 and attended Mississippi State University, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Upon completion of the Army ROTC program at Mississippi State, Mike received his commission as a Second Lieutenant, Signal CORPS, U.S. Army. Mike served six years active duty with assignments at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and the Pacific Command Headquarters at Camp Smith, Hawaii. Upon discharge from active duty in 1970 Mike served 22 years with the Mississippi Army National Guard, retiring in 1994 as the Communications-Electronics Warfare Officer, HQ STARC, at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
After Mike’s tour of duty, he returned to Jackson to begin a banking career with Deposit Guaranty National Bank. Mike was in the banking industry for over 45 years. He retired from Regions Bank as a Senior Vice President and Trust Officer.
Mike was known for his gentle and quiet spirit and his strength of character. His love and passion for Mississippi State were contagious. He was a Bulldog through and through. He also enjoyed running and gardening.
Mike is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dusty Thompson Womack, son Michael (Heidi) Womack and son Jason (Tarah) Womack, four grandsons, Charles Michael, II, Dixon, Niko and River. He is also survived by his brother Darryl Womack and his sister Robyn Gravely and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be March 1, 2024, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home from 10:30am until 11:30am. A graveside service will follow in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or a charity of your choice.
