Obituary of Rebecca Calhoun Sutton

Please share a memory of Rebecca to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rebecca Calhoun Sutton, 72, of Brandon, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on March 11, 2024, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center after an unexpected brief illness. She was born on November 5, 1951, in Blue Mountain, MS and lived the remainder of her life as a resident of Brandon, Mississippi. After graduating from Pearl High School in 1971, Rebecca worked in the insurance industry, dedicated several years to Voith Fabrics, and ultimately retired from service in the Dry-Cleaning industry. Having a strong Christian faith, Rebecca loved the Lord and attended Pine Lake Baptist Church. In her spare time, Rebecca enjoyed country music, reading, sewing, gardening in her greenhouse, and tending to her dog, Mickey, who she adored. She had a love for travel, especially trips that involved the beach. Rebecca’s all-time favorite past-time, though, was spending time with her family – especially her beloved children and grandchildren. Rebecca’s kind and gentle demeanor will be greatly missed. This sweet soul taught us how to live a full and meaningful life, age with grace, and pass from this earth with dignity. Rebecca is preceded in death by her daughter, April Calhoun, sister, Sheila Lee, and brothers, Ray Lee, Hubert Lee, and Caranza Lee. Rebecca is survived by her husband of 8 years, James Sutton of Brandon, daughter, Jennifer Palmer (Cliff) of Brandon, son, John Calhoun of Florence, grandchildren, Alexis Garver (Matthew) of Brandon, Colton Palmer of Brandon, Rustin Calhoun of Florence, sister, Beulah Nelson of Pearl, and stepdaughter, Marcie McCollum (Danny) of Brandon. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Natchez Trace Funeral Home from 1:00 pm to 2:00pm with graveside service to follow at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Calhoun, Rustin Calhoun, Cliff Palmer, Colton Palmer, and Matthew Garver. Rebecca and her family have been long-time supporters or organ donation and have been personally touched by the gift of life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, 4400 Lakeland Drive, Flowood, MS 39232. Rebecca’s family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude and thanks to the medical and support staff at the University of Mississippi Medical Center for the exceptional care given to Rebecca. The kindness and care shown to Rebecca and her family will forever remain in their hearts.
