This news saddens me. I loved Otty and I cherish the wonderful times we all spent together. I always enjoyed our chats and getting to see her smile as we shared many great laughs.
I'm keeping my friends Milena, Isik, and Loden in my prayers. God bless you.

We had just lost our home, jobs, and the expat life we’d known in Kuwait due to the Iraqi invasion, and we had a newborn baby. We felt anxious and isolated. But then we met Otty and Isik, and getting to know them brought us comfort and support we sorely needed. The connection was immediate. They were such thoughtful, empathetic, and giving friends. We grew very close very quickly, and even after we returned to Kuwait in 1992, we kept in regular contact. Otty and Isik were the only hometown friends we invariably met up with each summer on our annual return visits to Jackson for over two decades. Coincidentally, after moving to Dubai, we found our closest friends there, the Ozays, were also good friends with Otty and Isik from LSU days. And few years later Steve happened to be in New Orleans with an old college friend on a brief and random visit and ran into Otty on the street in the French Quarter. It seemed fate had a hand in bringing us all together. Our family bonds deepened when sweet Milena came into our lives, and she and Riana became friends. Over the years, we have cultivated our precious, familial friendship and created wonderful memories with Isik and Otty, like from the time we four went to a New Year’s party in Vicksburg to the week we four spent in Galveston to Milena and Loden’s wedding. And Steve will never forget the time he, three-year-old Riana, heavily pregnant Otty, and his ex-high school girlfriend went to the Choctaw Indian Fair in the sweltering summer and what unflagging delight Otty was. We have been so fortunate to have had Otty as a dear friend and integral part of our lives over the past thirty-three years. Her kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, warmth, and unfailing good humor will always remain with us. We will never stop missing her but will always smile to remember her.

Mi amiga mas mejor - my best friend ♥
No hay palabras. Solo los recuerdos mas bonitos. Hay un dicho: algo se muere en el alma cuando un amigo se va.
There are no words. Only beautiful memories. There is a saying: something dies in the soul when you lose a friend.
Tu amiga para siempre,
Susan Weldy

Dear Isik and Milena,
We are so sorry we lost touch after high school days at St Joe with our Mollie and you Milena.
We remember joyfully your birthday cook outs here and the famous mud slides! We have heard bits and pieces over the years of your lovely Marriage Milena, but we are so sorry word of your mom's illness never reached us to be of service and pray.
Now we will pray for your mom's eternal joie and your grief....we know it is hard to go forward without her here on earth....
Our love, The Gray-Lewis family ♡♡♡♡

Otilia had two friends named Susan, one of whom she fondly referred to as Susanita (Susan-KNEE-ta). Several years back, she referred to me as Susanita & that stirred a good laugh between us as she had slipped into a senior(ita) moment in confusing her two friends. From then on, she dubbed me Susanita as well. From that time, I knew to expect her jubilant greeting with every text, with every phone call, & each time she walked into my home.
Otilia did all things with love especially with her pet names for others. I consider myself lucky to have been given my own, & I look forward to the day that she will greet me at the gates of heaven with her joyous “Susan-KNEE-ta”.

Since I was a little girl until now I’ve had a special connection with my Tia Otty. Her presence always brought a lot of joy to my heart. Otty represents to me love, pride and determination.
You and Isik opened your home with loving arms when I came from Honduras to this country 26 years ago. Your guidance and support were invaluable. I will be forever thankful that God put your in my path. Tia, your spirit will continue filling my life with joy and I will be forever grateful for your love and our friendship. Open your wings and fly very high my dear Tia Otty. Until we meet again. With all my love
