Obituary of David Lee Stricklin, Sr.

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born on May 2, 1939, in Paintsville, Kentucky, David Lee Stricklin, Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children at the age of 85 years old. David is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Eula Stapleton Stricklin, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. From the ages of 14 and 16, when they first started dating on February 6, 1954, they navigated life's joys and challenges with unwavering love and commitment. David leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will forever live on in Eula’s heart. He is lovingly remembered by his three children: David Stricklin, Jr. of Madison (Jamie), Scott Stricklin of Gainesville, Fla. (Anne), and Leanna Henderson of Madison (Ryan). David was a source of guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love to his children. His children will miss his wit and the camaraderie he had with people from all walks of life. David was a proud and doting grandfather to five grandchildren, Abby, Hallie (John), Sophie, Ty, and Annie, who knew him fondly as “Boo” or “Big Daddy”. He took great delight in watching them grow and thrive, and his love for them knew no bounds. David was the beloved son of Henry and Minnie Stricklin, and had one brother, Bill (Brenda) of Paintsville, Ky., along with numerous nieces and nephews. The lifetime bond between the two brothers was a constant source of companionship. In 1966, David, Eula and newborn son David, Jr., relocated to Mississippi to begin a career with Hush Puppies Shoes as a sales representative. His dedication, perseverance, and natural charisma propelled him to excel in his role, earning him numerous accolades and honors for his outstanding achievements. David's contributions to his profession were marked by integrity, professionalism, and a desire to provide his family with safety and security. Beyond his professional accomplishments, David, a faithful follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, was actively involved in church leadership throughout his life. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. David's legacy of love, compassion, and integrity will continue to inspire all who knew him. In his leisure time, David had an affinity for yard work, clean cars and dressing sharply with his signature “puff” in his breast pocket. He cherished moments spent with his family, creating memories that will be treasured for generations to come. The Stricklin family would like to offer a special thanks to David’s personal caregivers, Mary Arnold and Brenda Reed, for the loving support and devotion they gave their “Pops” over the past few years. Thanks also to Pax Hospice for their care in recent weeks. Following a private family burial ceremony, a celebration of David's life will be held at First Baptist Church of Madison, Miss., on Friday, May 24, at noon with a reception and time for visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Gateway Rescue Mission, in honor of David's memory. David Lee Stricklin, Sr. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing, and may he rest in eternal peace.
