Mike was a hero of mine. He was a terrific student-athlete and an all-around great guy. He was always fun to be around and a real inspiration to me.
I was a couple of years behind him in school, but I played a lot of basketball with MIke and came to know him very well. Mike came from a wonderful family, was close to his three excellent brothers and I've been pleased in recent years to learn how proud he and Mary are of the family they created.
Mike came to San Francisco, California (and to the nearby area where my family lived) about 15 years ago. He had dinner with my family and told funny stories our kids loved. I was coaching Little League baseball at the time and I knew Mike enjoyed youth coaching, so I asked him to join our practice and, when the time was right, say a few words to the kids. Mike got the kids all laughing and shared a couple of brief insights about how, if they had each other's backs every day, they would become a good team. The players enjoyed being around Mike, too, and during the season they talked about what he had said to them.
Mike was a superb human being. I'll always smile when I think of him and know that he will continue to live on.

Growing up, I always looked forward to visiting Uncle Mike and Aunt Mary’s house or going on our annual family vacation to Gulf Shores. These times were special because they meant reuniting with the rest of the family and seeing all my cousins. Uncle Mike made it his mission to bring the family together, as family meant everything to him. The laughter, stories, and shared meals created memories that I cherish to this day. Uncle Mike’s dedication to family unity taught us the importance of staying connected and supporting one another, no matter the distance or circumstances.
He supported me in everything I did, whether it was a donation for a school fundraiser or help in launching my first children’s book. Even when we didn’t speak often, I always felt his support. His love for his children was tremendous, evident in the way he raised them to be the wonderful people they are today. The love and connection he shared with Aunt Mary were the cornerstones of what I wanted in a marriage: unity, love, friendship, and respect that could last a lifetime.
Uncle Mike embodied the belief that family is family, whether it’s the one you start out with, the one you end up with, or the family you gain along the way. He showed us the value of family bonds. His legacy of love and unity continues to inspire us all, reminding us of the strength we find in each other. I am forever grateful for the lessons he imparted and the unwavering support he provided throughout my life.
Uncle Mike's influence has left an indelible mark on all of us. His spirit of togetherness, unwavering support, and boundless love will continue to guide and inspire us. As we move forward, we carry his legacy in our hearts, cherishing the memories and the lessons he shared. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Mary, Sarah, Jennie and Emily, , Although saddened by Mike’s passing, his contributions to this world are so many even in his shortened life. I'm learned a few more as I read the obituary I have such fond memories of his early years with Mary and cheering for him at ISU in football. His fondness for Terre Haute and the sports areas of Indiana State are very special to an alumni in his class and I am honored to be one of his family members. Along with that came the pleasure of meeting all the grandkids which made that possible.
