Obituary of Mary E. Salvatore

Mary Lewis Nutting Salvatore passed away on August 7, 2024, in Madison, Mississippi. She was born on July 25, 1937, in Neshoba County, Mississippi.
She graduated from high school at Dixon, Mississippi, in 1954 and received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1957. She earned a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama in 1959 and did post-graduate work in administration and supervision at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.
Mary had a career in teaching and administration at preschool, middle school, secondary, and university levels. She taught home economics and eighth-grade English at New Augusta, Mississippi, supervised and trained teachers and taught classes at the University Demonstration Laboratory at the University of Alabama, and served as a consultant to and trained teachers for the Head Start program at its inception. For over twenty-five years she supervised and trained teachers at federally funded programs administered through the Palm Beach County School System in Florida. She retired in 1996 and moved to Madison in 2005. She has been a member of the Madison Methodist Church since moving to Madison, MS.
Mary is survived by her nephew Robert Lewis (Rachael), niece Jana Lewis Ethridge (Clark), niece Lynda Lewis Bonner (Mark), nephew Bruce Lester (Beth), and niece Julie Lester.
She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret McGarrity Lewis; her father, J. W. Lewis; her brother, Joseph W Lewis; her sister, Willene Lewis Lester; her only child, Norwood Vey Chandler Nutting III; and her husband, Amedeo Victor Salvatore.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Coldwater Baptist Church Cemetery in Philadelphia, Mississippi 39350.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful people at St. Catherine’s for taking such good care of Mary for many years, specifically Stacey Miller, Social Worker at Marian Hall. Also thank you to Shearra at Joy Care, Dr. Rappai, Dr Fair and all of the excellent nurses in ICU at Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
