Obituary of Danny Ross

Please share a memory of Danny to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Danny Lamar Ross June 17, 1953 – September 23, 2024 Danny Ross, a husband, father and grandfather with a heart as big as the great outdoors he so loved, died peacefully at his home in Madison on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024. He was 71. Funeral services are Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, with visitation preceding at 1 p.m. Danny, a businessman in Jackson and Clinton for decades, truly never met a stranger, bringing his easy, natural warmth to all endeavors and to his host of friends. His acumen, mechanical skills and personal touch made for a loyal and appreciative clientele at his businesses, including Ridgewood Shell in Jackson and CD’s convenience store in Clinton. Born in Stanton, Texas, he was the son of Edward L. Ross and Patsy J. McHann. Danny grew up mainly in Jackson, attending the public schools and graduating from Callaway High School, where he was on the basketball team and hurdle jump team. He and Christie Wallace, of Jackson, married in June 1978. The couple welcomed into the world daughter Amanda, son Steven and daughter Ashley, and the family’s circle in time grew to include six grandchildren, all most dear to Danny’s heart. The young ones enjoyed anything and everything outdoors with the smiling grandfather they called “Papaw” or “Paw Paw” – fishing in the pond, riding the ATV, swimming in the pool and just hanging out together on the back porch. A lifelong outdoorsman, Danny was a skilled hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed hunting in New Mexico and Colorado, as well as on his hunting grounds in Crystal Springs. Ever present, too, was his Harley. He reveled in journeys far and near – to famed Sturgis, South Dakota, with his son or friends, and along the Natchez Trace Parkway with Christie. He loved animals and they him. The company of dogs was a constant – Lance, Riley, Buttercup and more. His laugh was like none other, and he could fix just about anything. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Christie; daughters, Amanda (Chandler) Rasberry of Somerville, Tenn., and Ashley (Chris) Posey of Madison; son, Steven (Arora) Ross of Madison; sister, Debbie Watkins (Marshall) Robinson; and six grandchildren, Greyson Rasberry and Cate Rasberry, both of Somerville, Tenn., Reese Posey and Savannah Posey, both of Madison, and Vivian Ross and Presley Ross, both of Madison. The family expresses its sincere thanks and appreciation to Enhabit Hospice Care for the loving care of Danny in his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to an animal shelter of your choice.
