A lot of good memories come to mind when thinking about the period of my life in which I had the pleasure of Mr. Chris being apart of it. Many nights spent around a fire at his camp with his family, listening to country music, riding four wheelers, eating s’mores, and enjoying the little things. As a girl that had just moved here from the city, I originally had zero knowledge or interest in southern customs, traditions, or activities.. Chris and his family gave me the love I now have for the southern life. He always got so much joy out of the “simple things,” and I admired that a lot. He definitely had an impact on my own morals and values as I looked up to him and his family a lot in my formative years. Over the four years I had him in my life, he definitely had a hand in molding me into who I am today. I credit him for developing the deep love, admiration, and knowledge I have for law enforcement and first responders. He was the first person to give me an inside look into the life of an officer, the sacrifices they make, the risks they take, and just how hard a man like him will work in order to keep our city safe. I got to witness Ashleigh express her gratitude every single day for the sacrifices he made as an officer, and through her, I learned that every day that he came home safe from work was truly a blessing. I got to hear so many stories of his days on the force from him and his step son, highlighting how exciting it could be, but also how difficult and risky it was. I watched his son Brock look up to him and want to be just like his daddy, his hero. Chris also loved showing off his K9’s and their incredible skills, and incredible is exactly what they were. I remember thinking that the work he put into Roscoe and Splinter, and the entire K-9 unit as a whole, was so impressive. He was a dedicated man - he loved those dogs and they loved him. I grew a deeper love and appreciation for blue lives as a result of my time knowing him, I grew to understand what putting that uniform on every day truly meant. Law enforcement has become a large part of my life as a result of knowing Chris. I am so thankful to him for that. I have made many friends in the first responder community because of it, and It was something that ended up bonding me closer with a few friends who went into law enforcement after we graduated. They are now some of my very best friends.
I can sit here and tell you a million little stories I have of the times I got to spend around him, but I will wrap this up by saying that Chris always treated me like family from day one. I will forever be thankful for every joke he made, every time he picked at me, every time he made me feel included, every story he told, for taking me to my first college football game (Geaux Tigers!), for getting to join him in visiting his wonderful family in Louisiana, for the beach trips together, and for being an all around stand up guy that I could look up to. If it wasn’t for Chris and his family, there’s truly no telling how different my life would be today. I am thankful for the memories I have with them and I will cherish them forever.
