Shirley "Me-maw" Cooper Ellis, age 92, of Madison, MS passed peacefully at home on November 20, 2024. Me-maw was born December 14, 1931, in Kilmichael, MS and was the daughter of Dewitt James Cooper and Jimmie S. Pullen Cooper. A graduate of King's Daughter Hospital School of Nursing in Greenville, MS, Me-maw was a Registered Nurse at the University Medical Center with 25 years where she loved caring and nurturing people. She married Otis M. Ellis on September 25, 1953, and moved to Fort Worth, Texas where they owned River Oaks Laundry for 15 years. They moved back to Mississippi and lived in Jackson before moving to Madison in 1979. Me-maw was a devote Christian and served as a Sunday School teacher at Victory Baptist Church before moving her membership to Old Rice Road Baptist Church where she worshiped. She is preceded by her parents, husband, Otis Ellis; sister, Betty C. Johnson; brothers, Travis M. Cooper, James D. Cooper, and Earl R. Cooper. She is survived by her daughter, Ramona Kay Norrell; grandchildren, Amber Kay Norrell and Christopher Ashley Norrell and his wife Heather Alford Norrell; and two great grandchildren, Cole Norrell and Josie Ryals. A graveside service will be Friday, November 22, 2024, at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Rice Road Baptist Church 82 Old Rice Rd Madison, MS 39110.
