Minnie Margaret Walters Dunigan, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at the Vaiden Community Living Center, Vaiden, MS. Margaret was born to Virgil and Marie Walters on August 2, 1934, in Moselle, MS. She was fifth out of twelve children and enjoyed telling stories of her childhood with her siblings. She graduated from Moselle High School and immediately went to Jackson, MS seeking employment at Deposit Guaranty Bank in downtown Jackson. Through her years of employment, she held many positions and titles and enjoyed working. She was a bookkeeper, bank teller, loan officer, floral designer, and retired from Pearl Junior High School in 1994, as school cafeteria manager. Margaret married William A. Dunigan on September 5, 1959, and the Lord blessed them with 61 years of marriage. She was a member of Flowood Baptist Church where she faithfully served for as long as the Lord allowed. Although she became homebound in her later years, she continued to walk in faith and prayed for her friends, family, and church. Margaret had many hobbies she enjoyed through the years but sewing, quilting, and cooking for others were the things that brought her the most joy. She and Bill enjoyed traveling after retirement, indulging in their hobbies, and spending time with friends and family at their cabin they bought in Carroll County. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend, but the title she wore the proudest was Mama D. She is survived by her children, son, William Guy Dunigan (Anessa) Madison, MS, daughter, Linda Dunigan Dismukes (Barry) of Kilmichael, MS, two grandchildren, Garrett Dismukes (Kelsey), Alaina Dismukes, three great grandsons, Charlie, John, and Arthur Dismukes, all of Starkville, MS, sister, Jimmie Walters George, Monroe, LA, Robert "Bob" Walters, Moselle, MS, Jayne Duckwoth, Petal, MS, Tom Walters, Moselle, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws she dearly loved. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Dunigan; parents, Virgil and Marie Walters; and siblings- Mitchell "Cotton" Walters, Yvonne Walters Croxton, June Walters New, Jo Ann Walters Waggoner, Phyllis Walters Reans, Don Walters, and Mike Walters. There will be a visitation held at Flowood Baptist Church on Saturday, December 7th at 10:00 AM, with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM. A graveside service at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery to follow. Services will be officiated by Rev. Bobby McGuffie and Rev. Ricky Gray. Pallbearers will be Ray Hall, Earl Smith, Jerry Turner, Ken Barfoot, Les Neal, and Mike Pollard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Flowood Baptist Church Building Fund or Baptist Children’s Village.
