Donald Bruce, 92, of Flowood, Mississippi, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on December 12, 2024. Born on May 28, 1932, in the Carmack Community, he was the son of the late Everette Franklin Bruce and Carrie Ida Miller Bruce.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Donald served his country as part of the Honor Guard. He was also deeply committed to his faith and church, where he served as a deacon at McDowell Road Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi. Donald was known for his beautiful voice, often singing in the church’s Deacon’s Quartet. He was a dedicated member of his church family, where he shared both his musical talents and his love for the Lord.
In his professional life, Donald worked for Weyerhaeuser for over 20 years, where he earned the respect of his colleagues. He also enjoyed being active in his community, playing softball for both his church and his workplace.
Outside of work, Donald loved spending time in nature, particularly enjoying hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He also had a deep appreciation for old southern gospel music, often listening to his favorite hymns.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Everette Franklin Bruce and Carrie Ida Miller Bruce; his sisters, Sybil Crook and Louise Mann; and his brother, E.J. Bruce.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Bruce; his daughter, Rita Fancher; his son, Jeff (Leticia) Bruce; his sister, Faye Bruce; and his grandchildren: Leslie (Tyler) Wright, Stephanie (Will) Bunten, Michelle Davin, Cecilia (Erik) Lyles, Jeremy Bruce, Alejandro Bruce, Caridad Bruce; as well as his great-grandchildren: Layla McGuire, James McGuire, Ruby McGuire, Avonlea McGuire, Cadence Wright, Quinn Bunten, and Tierra Lyles.
