Donna Ferns Pickel, beloved mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Ridgeland, Mississippi, on December 15, 2024, at the age of 67.
Donna was born on January 31, 1957, in Texas to Kipp Ferns and Dolores Feeler Ferns.
Donna dedicated her career to the medical field, working in medical records at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She found great fulfillment in her work, where she dedicated thirty-two years, eleven months, and seven days of her life.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Donna was deeply involved in her church community, serving in the nursery where she cared for babies and children with love and devotion. She cherished the opportunity to nurture young lives and found joy in being part of their growth and development.
Donna’s heart was a place of warmth and acceptance. She opened her home and her heart to all who needed it, always welcoming others into her chosen family. Her daughter, Anna, was the light of her life, and the two shared countless treasured moments together, often bonding over their love of Grey’s Anatomy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-two years, Tony James Pickel, and her parents, Kipp and Dolores Ferns. Donna is survived by her daughter, Anna Marie Pickel; her stepchildren, Angie Pickel Allison, Trent (Ashley) Pickel, and Marty (Lori) Pickel; her sister, Becky (Bill) Thomas; her grandchildren, Rodney Allison III, Toni (Jonathan) Roberts, Alex Allison, Allisa Pickel, Brooke Pickel, Gentry Pickel; her great-grandchild, Benjamin Roberts; her niece, Sarah Foxworth; her nephews, Micah Thomas and Joshua Thomas; her bonus daughter, Emily Bailey; and her bonus grandchildren, Brayden and Alayna.
A memorial service celebrating Donna's life will be held on Wednesday, December 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 1531 Colony Parkway, Madison, MS.
Donna’s love for others, her nurturing spirit, and her unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone whose life she touched.
