Please share a memory of Nina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nina Belle Aucoin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, at the age of 89. She was born on February 9, 1935, in Mobile, Alabama, to Arthur Elmore Hapeman and Beulah Caroline Nash-Hapeman, and spent much of her adolescent life in New Orleans, Louisiana. Nina dedicated her life to her faith and her family. A devoted homemaker and military wife, she found joy in caring and nurturing her loved ones. During her husband's 29-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard, she “set up house” for a family of 5 in 11 locations. Jacob Sr. and Nina ultimately retired and moved to Madison, Mississippi in 2008 and resided at St. Catherine’s Village. They joined the local Baptist Church in each location and became members of the Madison First Baptist Church and the Madison Chapel when they finally settled down. Nina’s post Coast Guard life was marked by a profound dedication to service, particularly her involvement in the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) of Mississippi. She began serving locally at Miriam Chapter #67 in Wiggins, Mississippi. She would later hold several State level roles beginning in 2001 and concluding her service as the Mississippi Worthy Grand Matron in 2007. She was a respected member of the OES and cherished her role in the organization. Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob P. Aucoin Sr.; her daughter, Lesa Stanton; her mother, Beulah Caroline Nash-Hapeman; her father, Arthur Elmore Hapeman; her sister, Anita Herron; her daughter-in-law, Susan Aucoin, and her grandson Alexander Stanton. Nina is survived by her daughter, Christine “Chrissie” and spouse Robert Williams; her son, Jacob P. Aucoin Jr.; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Services for Nina will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or Billy Graham Ministries in her honor. Nina’s legacy of love, service, and faith will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
