John Wayne Blackwell

Jackson, MS

John Wayne Blackwell, 63, of Jackson, MS was called home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2018.  A visitation honoring John will be at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS on Friday, May 25, 2018 followed by a family graveside service.

John was born in Moorhead, MS on January 9, 1955 to Albert Dewitt Blackwell, Sr. and Mattie Lou Mathis Blackwell.   He grew up in Moorhead and in 1978 moved to Jackson where he worked for many years at Willowood Development Center.  He loved working 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, listening to country music, playing his tambourine, and dancing.  John had a positive attitude about everything and saw the best in everyone.  He was an extrovert who never met a stranger and never forgot anyone he met.  He loved the Lord and was a member of  Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS for many years and  Park Place Baptist Church in Brandon, MS in recent years.  There is no doubt that John left his mark on this earth.  He will be missed dearly.

A special thank you to Southern Care Hospice Services and Magnolia Senior Care for the great care they showed John in recent months.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Dewitt Blackwell, Sr.  He is survived by his loving mother, Mattie Mathis Blackwell of Jackson, MS, two sisters, Kathleen Blackwell Jenkins and her husband, Perry of Madison, MS, JoAnne Vance and her husband, James of Jackson, MS, two brothers, Albert D.
