Obituary of Thomas Levin Luckett
Tom Luckett, 82, of Canton, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 7, 2018 with his wife and daughter by his side. A devoted husband and a beloved father, father-in-law and grandfather, Tom was born January 6, 1936, in Sharon, Mississippi. He graduated from Farmhaven High School and then went on to graduate from Mississippi State University with a degree in civil engineering.
Tom worked for the Mississippi Highway Department in Jackson where he met and married Erma Halford. They briefly lived in Mobile, Alabama, where their daughter, Lisa, was born, before settling in Vicksburg, Mississippi where Tom worked for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers for 30 years. After retirement, Tom and Erma moved to Deerfield Country Club in Canton where he played golf almost daily for 25 years.
Tom loved his family dearly and was blessed with three grandsons. He was a passionate Mississippi State Bulldog fan and often referred to the university as part of his family. He was an avid golfer, a devoted family man and a man of great faith.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Erma Luckett, daughter Lisa (Scott) webb of Jacksonville, Florida and sister Sarah Gorrell of Drew, Mississippi. He is also survived my three grandsons, Jack, John and Joe Webb of Jacksonville, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Sally Luckett along with his brothers Pat, Charlie, Gipson and Billy Luckett and sisters Harriette Kee and Peggy Burrell.
Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Canton on Monday, June 11 at 10 a.m. with the funeral mass immediately following at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Natchez Trace Cemetery in Madison.
