Flora Mae Hicks 86, of Jackson, MS was called home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2018. Visitation will be Monday, September 24, 2018 from 11-1 P.M. at Natchez Trace Funeral Home. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 P.M. Monday at Natchez Trace Funeral Home. Graveside will follow at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Flora was born on September 03, 1932 to the late Edgar Sylvester Woods & Ida Lee Lowery Woods in West Monroe, LA. At a young age Flora, and her family moved to the Mississippi delta where she grew up and attended school at Satartia High School where she graduated. Flora was an artistic woman who sang and loved arts and crafts. She was deeply involved in the community clubs such as, Ceramic club & Senior Functions club. She had an avid green thumb and could name a large amount of flower species. For many years Flora worked for the City of Jackson for many years as a School Crossing Guard. Flora went on to join the Jackson Police Department as a Community Service Officer for many years until retiring. Flora spent her life serving the communities in which she loved. Most of all Flora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her greatest moments in life were being able to spend her days with her family watching her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren grow with the love she gave them.
Flora is preceded in passing by her loving husband of over 30 years Marvin T Hicks, her parents Edgar & Ida Woods, one brother, Vernon “Buddy” Woods, and one sister, Mamie Helen Lee.
She is survived by her 4 children, Michael Lynn Hicks and his wife Jeannie of Jackson, MS., Kenneth “Dee” Hicks and his wife Emily of Spring Hill, TN., Thomas Aubrey Hicks of Jackson, MS., and Debra Hicks Panter and her husband Craig of Madison, MS., one sister, Javerne Grambling of Indianola, MS., 9 grandchildren, Reece Hicks, William Hicks, Janie Hicks, Lauren Hicks Tomlin, Austin Hicks, Aubrey Hicks, Jonathon Panter, Holly Hicks, and Elizabeth Panter., 7 great- grandchildren, Jason, Maylen, Aiden, Kimber, Knox, Violet, and Georgia.
