Obituary of JW Eakes
J W Eakes, born Oct 27, 1930, in Philadelphia, MS and passed into the loving arms of His Savior Jesus Christ on February 14, 2019. Jesus had a Special Valentine Gift for JW and called him home to receive it. J W was the son of the late John Walter and Eva Eakes both of Philadelphia. He was 88 years old and a US Army veteran having served during the Korean conflict in 1954. He was a graduate of Shady Grove High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. JW was retired from the Sperry Vickers (now Eaton Aerospace) corporation after a 36 year career as a Machinist in Jackson MS. He was a long time resident of Ridgeland, MS, and an avid vegetable gardener. Neighbors, friends and family always knew when Tomatoes and Turnips were being harvested because of J W's generosity from the bounty of this garden. He also loved his family farm in Philadelphia where he would spend time hunting and fishing and walking the land with his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anna Ledington Eakes, brothers Ray and Ralph Dale, and sisters Marie, Helen and Pauline, son Dr. David Eakes, M.D. (Jennie) of Townsend, TN, daughter Charlotte Taylor (Ronnie) of Madison, MS, daughter Carol Thomas (Donald) of Madison, MS, Grandchildren Ben Eakes (Las Cruces, New Mexico), Josh Eakes (Madison MS), Sarah Stooksbury (Knoxville, TN), Emily Nelson (Canton MS), Anna Taylor (Madison MS), Rachel Winborne (Ridgeland MS), Aaron Thomas (Madison MS), and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wayne and Irvin and sister Irene. He was a faithful member of Parkway Pentecostal Church in Madison, MS, and faithfully served the church Food Pantry Ministry for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkway Pentecostal Church Food Pantry Ministry.
