Mrs. Derotha Dorsey was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 24, 2019 while surrounded by her family.

A visitation honoring Mrs. Dorsey will be held Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS with a Celebration of Life Service following at 11am in Natchez Trace Funeral Home.  Graveside will be held Thursday at 3:00 P.M. in Shelby, MS at the Shiloh Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Derotha Dorsey was born July 4, 1935 to the union of the late Will Curley and the late Maude Skinner.

Derotha grew up in Mound Bayou, MS in Bolivar County. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.  She attended and was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Shelby, MS.

She married Russell “Fred” Dorsey Sr. in Cleveland, MS, to this union there were 8 daughters and one son.

Derotha lived a rich and fulfilled life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and her doors were always open and welcoming to family and friends.  She loved her family and was a nurturing caregiver at home and on her job. She selflessly took care of all her family members in their time of need.

Derotha was preceded in passing by her loving husband of 53 years, Russell “Fred” Dorsey Sr., her son, Russell Dorsey Jr., her parents, Will Curley & Maude Skinner, three sisters, Annie Lee Robinson, Mary Alice Williams, Emma Jean Skinner, and two brothers, William Skinner and Rudolph Skinner.

Derotha leaves to cherish her memory her eight daughters, Vivian F. Seaton of Gulfport, MS., Cheryl Y. Rose of Shelby, MS., Debra A. Bell of Shelby, MS., Mary J. Redding of Madison, MS., Ada M. Story and her husband Barron of Cleveland, MS., Yvonne Singleton and her husband Thomas of Natchez, MS., Shirley Dorsey of Memphis, TN., Carol Dixon and her husband Howard of Winstonville, MS.; four sisters, Juanita Hollins of Chicago, Ill, Margie Edwards of Chicago, Ill., Marva Skinner of Chicago, Ill., and Deborah K. Jackson of Madison, MS.; fourteen grandchildren, Tara D. Seaton of Gulfport, MS., Latonya E. Curley of Ridgeland, MS.; Lance Seaton of Tucson, AZ., Crystal Story of Cleveland, MS., Victoria Battee’ of Shelby,  MS., Kendra Redding of Madison, MS., LaDarrius Battee’ of Starkville, MS.,  Barron Story Jr. of Cleveland, MS., seven great gran Adrian Holt of Memphis, TN, Tekelia Holt of Dallas, Texas, Ashley Holt of Natchez, MS.; Timothy Smith of Memphis, TN, Marcus Mckinney of Memphis, TN, LaJessica Dixon, of Memphis, TN, and Heidi Ford of Huntsville, AL, seven great grandchildren  along with a host of nieces, nephews, and  other relatives and friends.
