Mr. Dan was a legend at FBCJ- he was ALWAYS happy and lit up every room he was in. I know his reunion with Mrs. Ruth is grand.

Dan and I were members of the Mississippi woodworkers. He would always start our meetings with a word of prayer and was always a joy to talk to. He loved making wooden toys and was a big part of our yearly charity projects. He is sorely missed.

Dan Blackledge was so special and always encouraging to me. He never past a person or child without speaking personally to me. I learned to love him through his family and church family. He will be greatly missed, but is now rejoicing with Jesus and friends and family who welcomed him in to eternity.
I am praying for his entire family here, for their strength to endure during these times. I love you dearly

I grew up on Alta Vista across the street from the Blackledge's. Dan was a sharing person who always had time to repair or helped with an art project for school. Never heard a fowl word from his mouth. A peaceful person is always a great loss for all. Peace.

Dan lived across the hall from my mother-in-law at the Home Place. He was always so kind and helpful to her. Dan was the guy that all the women called on to fix whatever needed to be fix and he was always glad to help. Dan had a sweet spirit and a ready smile and he will be missed by all at the home.

I’ve known Mr. Blackledge about as long as I’ve known the Bullock family. I was always accepted as part of this family, I came to know Mr. Blackledge as “Grandad”. That’s exactly what he was, a non-biological “Grandad”.
I loved seeing him at Chic Fil A on Saturday mornings, or visiting with him as I spent time with his grandson, Joel. Grandad was a wealth of knowledge, and told many great stories. His greatest legacy to his family is his expressive love for them and for Christ.
Going to miss you “Grandad”!
Prayers for the family

I worked with Blackie almost my entire apprenticeship time, beginning with day one, at Matthews Electric. He taught me many things both as an electrician and as a young man. One memory that I have remembered to this day was when he told me he considered himself, and all working men, as "professional" men...a term usually applied to doctors/lawyers, etc. One very hot day while working on a job in Mendenhall, our employer, L.E. Matthews, was there and showing me some conduit bending technique. As was our custom, we were laughing and joking around. Blackie came over with his usual hot-weather bandanna wrapped around his head and admonished us to cut it out and get it done! After Blackie had walked away several feet, our boss muttered unintelligible words under his breath and whispered to me, "I reckon I told him off"!! Thus was Blackie's boss' respect for him...he knew the man who was valuable to him and his company. Often prospective customers would call Matthews and before giving him the job would ask if Blackie still worked for him. I'll always remember Blackie for his love of Christ, his devotion to his family AND to the electrical profession. Rest in Peace my friend.
