Joseph Vincent McCann

Madison, MS

Mr. McCann, 74, passed away August 12, 2017 at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery V.A. Medical Center in Jackson, MS.  Memorial services will be held September 23, 2017 at the American Legion Hall in Fox Lake, IIllinois. Joe was born on May 3, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Mr. & Mrs. Leo McCann.  After graduating from Round Lake High School in 1961, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served 4 years before returning home to Round Lake ……. In 1981 he relocated to the south for career purposes. Over the next several years he spent time in Texas and Louisiana before retiring to Mississippi in 2011 to be close to children and grandchildren. He returned to work for one final project in 2012. He loved his work and leading his "crew". Most of his career was spent in construction and he never "hung up" his tool belt. Joe always had a project going at home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ellen McCann, and his sister, Patricia Wicinski.

He is survived by his former spouse and life partner, Melda Jane McCann, sons Christopher McCann and Timothy (Andrea) McCann, daughter Colleen Sparrow; step-daughters Aidan (Paul) Larson and Kate (Todd) Marshall; grandsons Halston Sparrow, Conley McCann Sparrow, Rowan Larson, Leo Larson and Grey McCann; granddaughters Sadie McCann, Sofia Larson, Georgia Marshall, Story McCann and Eleanor McCann. He is also survived by sister Kathleen (Robert) Swieton and brother Lawrence McCann and many nieces and nephews. Joe's large family always gave him much joy. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
