Mary Edna Calhoun, 92, of Jackson, passed away on December 24, 2019 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.
She was born on September 14, 1927 to Claude and Doris Killebrew Hudgins in Kosciusko, MS.
She attended Southside Baptist Church with her close friend and Sister-in-Law, Loyce Hudgins and enjoyed her friends and Sunday School Class, where she often attended and enjoyed her monthly Metallic Club food gatherings. Mary Calhoun co owned and operated Calhoun Fence Company from 1955 until 1971 with her husband and father of her children, Murray Calhoun, she then managed a restaurant with her brother, Fred Hudgins in Grenada, MS after sometime later she opened, owned and operated Capital Discount linens on Terry Road and subsequently moving her business to Byram Swinging Bridge Marketplace under the name Bed, Bath and Linen, where she retired. She enjoyed holidays and reunion gatherings with siblings, children and extended family for many years. Ms. Calhoun was an incredible cook throughout her life and passed that on to all her children, at home she enjoyed feeding and watching her birds and caring for her beloved pets, Buddy and Roadie. She was cared for in her home by daughter, Sandra for the last six years, where her children often visited, before she went home to be with her Lord.
Mary is survived by her children; Joe Calhoun, Sr. (Judy), Janice Berlin (Paul), Pat Calhoun (Perry) and Sandra Johnston; Sisters, Margaret Buie, Frances Gunter, Patricia Blaine; Sister-in-law, Loyce Hudgins; Brothers, Sammy Hudgins and Paul Hudgins; Grandchildren, Joe Calhoun, Jr., Daniel Calhoun (Amanda), Jennifer Palmer (Cliff), John Calhoun (Beverly), Justin Calhoun, Will Berlin (Clare), Lexie Anderson (Parker), Sam Kealhofer, Jake Kealhofer, Blake Simmons and Nikki Walker (David); 12 Great Grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by Father, Claude Hudgins, Mother, Doris Killebrew Hudgins, Sister, Betty Jo Cox, Brothers, Eugene Hudgins, Claude Hudgins, Jr., Wayne Hudgins, Robert Hudgins, James Hudgins, Fred Hudgins, and Charles Hudgins, Sr. and Grandchildren, Eric Hegwood, April Calhoun, Devin Berlin, Brandon Johnston and Lanie Kealhofer.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 28, 2019, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Coleman Cemetery in Sallis, MS. Rev. Jeff Parker will officiate the services.
