Obituary of Larry Lee Davis
Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Larry Lee Davis passed away peacefully at home in Brandon, MS and went into the arms of Jesus February 6. Larry was born March 24, 1950, in Meridian, MS. Larry was the youngest of five children born to his late parents Martin M. Davis, Sr. and Willie Lee (Billie) Davis. After the family moved to Jackson, Larry was involved in baseball and basketball. He also began learning to play the guitar. In high school, Larry played in several rock ‘n roll bands, often with his brother Martin. Larry’s band, Pandora’s Box, released a record that was heard on radio stations in Mississippi. Larry graduated from college at Mississippi State University with a degree in business. Throughout his professional career, Larry was involved in various kinds of real estate projects in Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas, where he met the love of his life, Renae Milam, whom he married in 1991. Larry left his legacy with his daughter Shannon who stated, “My father gave me my business sense. I will always remember from the first time selling cookies as a Girl Scout, I was #1 in sales. I feel like I sold everyone cookies in Brandon. In the 2000’s when I got into real estate he helped me understand the business. Dad, I love you, and I know you will look over all my business ventures in the future.” Larry and his brother Martin continued to play music together throughout their lives. In their 60s, they created a band called “The Neighbors.” Larry’s dear Friend Ernie Thomas joined them. As Larry would often say, “We are guys in our 60s playing music from the 60s.” Larry was a man of strong faith in Jesus. Two years ago, Larry told his brother Martin that he was happy with the life he had lived and was content to go and be with Jesus at any time.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Renae, his daughter Shannon Gustafson (Ryan), of Austin, TX, grandchildren Austin Lee and Taylor Jane Gustafson, his sisters Nelda Humphries (Ed) of Columbus, MS and Hilda Courtney (dec. Ken) of Pearl, MS and his brother Martin Davis (Sara) of Brandon, MS and several nieces and nephews and mother in law Novella McClung of Foreman, AR.
