Charles William Boyd was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Boyd. Survived by children Bill Boyd of Tom Bean, Texas, Robert Boyd (Annie) of Windsor, CO, Becky Boyd of Dublin, OH and Brenda (Nathan) Dunaway of Madison. MS, grandchildren Jennie (Wayne) Nichols, Christa Boyd, Bret Boyd, Brandy (Mike) Womack, Erin Wright, Jeffrey Wright, Emily (Devon) Kreuger, and twelve great-grandchildren. Charles was born in Treece, Kansas on August 4, 1926 to Ralph and Faye Boyd. The story of how he met Betty was one that he loved to tell often. One summer, he heard a loud whack and watched a ball fly over the fence. He thought “Wow, I’ve got to see who hit that ball.” When he walked around the fence, there stood Betty. He asked her “Are you going to Central in the fall?” They attended Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma together. They were married July 17, 1946. One of Charles’s passions was football. He coached the junior high school Bell Bobcats to 100 victories, which 55 of them were shut outs. He coached a lot of very talented players, with the most famous of them being Gary Busey. Later, he became a scout for the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was a lifetime Oklahoma University fan. Charles served his country as a Naval Sergeant First Class in World War II and a Marine Sergeant in the Korean War. He was a member of the Tokyo Bay Occupation Force that captured the HIJMS Nagato, which symbolized the complete surrender of the Japanese Navy. Charles also served as an elder at Berean Bible Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is loved dearly and will be sadly missed by his family until we see him again. A graveside emorial service is scheduled for Friday October 2, 2020 at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00pm.
