Obituary of Elizabeth Rodgers

Elizabeth Rodgers, 85, of Ridgeland, passed away on February 1, 2021 at St. Dominic's Jackson Memorial Hospital.
She was born on January 28, 1936 to Sam L. Talley and Macelle Key Talley in Mansfield, Louisiana. After high school, she trained with Marjorie Lawrence as an Opera singer and had plans to travel abroad performing. She then met Charles Wray Rodgers in Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Gretna, Louisiana and they decided to marry and have a home where they could raise a family. She did continue to perform in the places they lived, whether it be on stage in New Orleans or at First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She has been a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and she also was known for teaching piano and vocals to her students.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Babbe May of Ridgeland; Son, Scott Rodgers of Ridgeland; grandchildren, Amanda May, Jessica May (Patrick), Brooke Bryant (Carter), Babbe Rodgers, Kasey May (Amanda) and Lexi Rodgers; great grandchildren, Morgan Grissett, Lacey Bryant, McKinley Rose and Oliver Evans; sister-in-laws, Joy Baker of Beaumont, TX, and Chris Murphy (Mike) of Houston, TX; and two brother-in-laws, Bennie Walker (April) of Pass Chrisitan, MS and Woody Rodgers (Rhonda) of Scurry, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles Wray Rodgers, Sr. and son, Charles Wray Rodgers, Jr.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 1:00pm at Ridgecrest Baptist Church and burial will follow in Duck Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Music Department or Missions Fund at Ridgecrest Baptist Church 7469 Old Canton Rd Madison, MS 39110.
