Obituary of Myrtis Johnson
~Myrtis Lee Johnson 98, of Madison, MS was called home to be with the Lord on November 4, 2017 in Madison, MS. She was on Born October 26, 1919, in Magee, Mississippi where she grew and completed high school in Magee, MS. She was employed by Madison County Hospital as a nurse assistant and Ridgeland High School as a food service worker. Myrtis was also active in First Baptist Church of Madison since 1952 where she started as the Girls Auxiliary (GA) leader and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of First Baptist for 65 years - one of the longest members.
She was also active in the Madison County Home Demonstration Club. For many years, she enjoyed growing roses that she shared with neighbors, friends and church family members. She bred and raised sheltie dogs and at one time cared for 21 puppies. One of the highlights of her life was when she traveled to Israel with Reverend Jordan and Sarah. She also traveled to Hawaii with her sisters, Mattie Mae Richardson and Carrie Lee Shorter.
Preceded in death by husband, Tommy Johnson, sons, Mac Johnson and Ted Johnson, and her parents, Robert and Minnie Hughes of Magee, MS.
Survived by daughter, Tommie Lee Hart of Virginia, daughter-in-law Betty Jo Johnson and sister Ruby Anders. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, November 06, 2017 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison, MS. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist of Madison located in Madison, MS.
